Barbara works with participants at The Web. Barbara to obtain services to address their mental health, substance abuse issues and/or any other help they are wanting. Barbara is Alaska Native and assists others struggling with their ethnic identity to regain pride and confidence in who they are. She helps participants in regaining control over their lives and gain the knowledge necessary for them to make positive personal and employment choices. Barbara uses her own life experiences to assist others on the road to recovery. She shares with them techniques she has used to help them make positive choices in regard to recovery, employment, housing and mini grants.
Barbara has been with the Alaska Mental Health Consumer Web for little over a year. Almost from the first day of employment, Barbara has been regarded as a positive role model and team member of the Web. She projects a sense of personal happiness, inner calmness and positivity that affects not only the members, but also her fellow staff members.
She loves working with and helping participants and coworkers in their travels through life. Barbara has been there and she shares proudly that she has been in recovery for over 6 years.
She has the innate ability to calm a situation just by being there. In addition, she has completed 12 hours of training in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and AED. Barbara is always looking for a way to help others gain knowledge, skills and empowerment. She is a leader and positive role model for others at the Web because she will take that first step forward in meeting a challenge with her head held high, enthusiasm and personal dedication which allows her to grow and pass her new knowledge to others.
