Hilda has been a member in good standing since August 3rd, 2012. She has come into the Web and utilized our resources with peer support. Hilda had been homeless, sleeping on family’s couches off and on over the years, and having a hard time finding a place of her own. She found a place of her own and has been very happy with where she is living at this time. The web helped her with her first month’s rent of $850. Hilda needed a place of her own as she had a lot of medical issues, one was that she needed surgery and needed a place to heal. In her time at her new place she had no furniture, was sleeping on the floor and had no table or a couch. Through the Alaska Mental Health Trust, she had applied for a mental health grant that would allow her to buy new furniture. During her waiting time to hear if she was granted the grant, she had surgery on her neck. She was sleeping on the floor. Her grant was approved, she went to shop at JcPenneys for furniture buying a bed, table and chairs and a couch. Her furniture was delivered that Sunday after 2 days of purchase. She called that next day and was so thankful she wanted to thank all the staff for helping her. Hilda said “Becky you don’t know how good it was to sleep in my own bed, I slept so well”. To eat at a table instead of hunched over a chair was a lot better. She will be shopping for the rest of her household goods and is so very thankful for all that she has received. In the time that I have known Hilda, she has been polite and in good spirits and didn’t really ask for much. When she received help with her housing and was able to buy new furniture and household items, she has appeared less stressed and a lot happier and rested. She has her daughter who has been her supporter through all this transition with medical with surgeries and helping her around her place. When meeting with Hilda, she greets others with a great big old smile on her face and it has been much bigger since she has received her furniture. I believe that with the resources and support from the Web, that this has improved Hilda’s life immeasurably.
Sincerely,
